Before anything else, it may be necessary for you to have administrator account access in order to complete all of the steps listed below. Change this in your settings or get in touch with your IT expert if the account you are using does not have administrative permissions. So, without much further ado, here are the steps:

1. First, ensure that your product key is prepared

Microsoft product keys are available from the official Microsoft website or from a number of internet merchants. A code of twenty-five characters should be sent to you, which is used to upgrade your system from Evaluation to Full version.

2. Choose from the following options to launch the Command Prompt after starting your computer:

  • Look up “Command Prompt” with your taskbar’s search feature. Select Run as Administrator by right-clicking on it when you see it in the results.

  • To open the Run utility, press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard. Enter “cmd” and hit the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + Shift + Enter. With this action, the Command Prompt is opened with administrator privileges.

  • Click and select Command Prompt (Admin) by using the Windows + X keyboard shortcut.

3. If the Command Prompt asks you to make changes to your device, click Yes. It is possible that you will also need to enter the administrator password.

4. Use the following command to find out your system’s current version: DISM/Online/Get-CurrentEdition

For starters, ServerEdition varies based on the product key you possess. Replace ServerEdition with ServerStandard if you are upgrading to the Standard edition. Meanwhile, if you’re trying to upgrade to the Datacenter edition, replace ServerEdition with ServerDatacenter. The set of Xs represents the 25-number product key we mentioned above.

6. The Waiting Game

Hold off until the loading is finished. It could take a while, so make sure you do not shut down your computer for the whole duration. Your computer might restart itself multiple times or ask for your permission to do so; in the latter case, click the Y key on your keyboard.

After the procedure is finished, you can use these easy steps to see if your Windows Server is no longer running the Evaluation edition:

  • From your taskbar, launch the File Explorer.
  • Select “This PC” and click Right-Click.
  • From the context menu, select Properties.
  • To determine whether the conversion was successful, look at the Windows edition section.
  • And there you have it!
